The story of the Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok series begins when the gods have a meeting to decide whether to let humans live or die. Under Zeus, the gods of Ancient Greece, Norse mythology, and Hinduism come together every thousand years to determine the destiny of mankind. Due to their relentless bad deeds towards each other and the planet, this time the gods have made up their minds to end humanity.

But before the final decision is taken, Brunhild, one of the 13 demigod Valkyries, makes another suggestion: instead of annihilating humanity in an anticlimax manner, why not give them the opportunity to fight and represent Ragnarok, a confrontation between humans and gods? Encouraged by the opposition, the council of gods quickly accepted, they were completely confident that this contest would show the absolute power of the gods.

13 gods will fight against 13 selected humans in one-on-one battles, the first team to get 7 wins from 13 fights will be the winner. In order to allow the race to fight the supreme being, Brunhild needs to gather the greats of history, otherwise the humans will be annihilated.
