Youn Yuh Jung Made History Record as First Korean Actress to Get an Oscar Nomination

Korean films have made a comeback at the 93rd Academy Awards or Oscar nominations in 2021.

Lee Isaac Chung's film Minari was nominated for Best Picture at the world's most prestigious cinema award ceremony.

In addition, Youn Yuh Jung, one of the players at Minari, was also successfully selected as a nominee for the Best Actress in Supporting Role category.

I don't know how to explain it, I never dreamed of being nominated for an Oscar - said Youn as quoted by Reuters.

Youn admitted that he heard the news that he was successful in becoming an Oscar nominee while undergoing a mandatory two-week quarantine in South Korea after returning from Canada.

She was crying, I didn't cry, I was just lying half asleep on the sofa - she added. A friend, said Youn, told her who was crying in tears.

The 73-year-old actress shared her achievements with her Minari co-star Steven Yeun.

Steven Yeun became the first Asian-American actor in history to be nominated for Best Actor at an Oscar.
